KeyPals teaches one child to play a real piano on an iPad. The home screen is the piano: eighty-eight keys, sampled grand sound, no accounts and no internet. Song Time waits for the right note instead of rushing her. A parent can plug in a MIDI keyboard or import a song from a recording on the device.

There is no world map, no stickers, no shop. Two kinds of learning only — free play and guided repetition — because that is what worked when she sat down with it.
